Welcome to Vicky Durand’s Adventure Blog #76
September 21,2024
It has been a while wind week away from Hana traveling across to the end of middle American and now on my way back. I am starting this while on a 3 hour plane ride with my daughter Marcie from Charlotte N.C. to Denver. After going to her house and spending the night Tomorrow I fly to San Diego, then back to Oahu on Monday and home Tuesday.
To give you a little sense of the ten day long adventure…..Early Friday,( 6 AM) morning I met the mini MEO (Maui Economic Opportunity) free bus at 6 AM Hasegawa’s store. It was a two hour drive in mostly rain to the Kahalui airport From Kahalui I took an early afternoon plane to San Francisco where we arrive late and by the time I took the sky bus around to the Hyatt it was really late as I missed the first stop and had to go all around the terminals, rent a car, and long term parking twice. Then unfortunately I had an early morning flight to Norfolk Virginia via Charlotte. That allowed for about three hours of worried sleep.
The flight seemed long, but I saw a lot of middle America. The best part was seeing the Great Salt Lake which I have always wondered about. My great great grand parents took a wagon train to Salt Lake City in the 1800’s.
My daughter Rennie met me in Norfolk and we spent a nice few days visiting my grand daughter Remi, husband Colon along with great grand son Colton and and daughter Reagan. The stay was a bit short, but we at least spent a few hours.
We stayed at the famous and amazingly charming Cavalier Hotel where the Great Gabsy was filmed. Rennie and I had a room on the 6th floor which was the floor where ghosts of famous people who stayed there appeared along with a possible cat. We did not Experience any sightings. We also visited the Edgar Casey Foundation, home of the first medical intuitive, and where we had our auras filmed. All pretty fun with lots of delicious meals thrown in.

We then drove five hours south to Wilmington NC in the rain and to Carolina Beach which had a 1,000 year flood with fifteen inches of rain in twelve hours. Needless to say there was lots of water around in certain areas and some houses were flooded although we thankfully were high and dry.

Tuesday we had a massage in a salt cave and another delicious dinner out within Billy, Rennie’s husband. My daughter Marcie flew in on Wednesday and met us for a great lunch with grand daughters Maile and Hailey.

Thursday evening Rennie and Billy had a taco party with friends and more family. Last night after cocktails at neighbor Pat’s house we Ubered to a very cool Greek restaurant for another fun evening ..

Rennie and Billy have a small boat docked walking distance from their house. They take it out in the Inter Coastal and have a lot of fun. They took Marcie and I out for a little jaunt on Friday afternoon.

As you can see this has been a very full and wonderful week spending a bit of time with my daughters and other family. Marcie and I flew back to Denver and I spent a night with them and saw their lovely house. I am now just leaving Denver and the approach of winter is looming so it will be good to head west to the tropics. I am going home to big water problems which I am not looking forward to dealing with. My big water tank was not installed low enough to catch water from the gutters so it has to be drained and moved to lover ground. An excavator is needed for the job and the process will be quite involved digging and removing a few breadfruit trees.
Billy and Rennie have a small boat that they walk to the dock and take it out on the Inter Coastal. We had a nice little boat ride one afternoon.

Thanks for tuning in and I hope this has not been too dull for the reading. This past week has been a different kind of adventure-the airports (Charlotte and Denver) were very complicated to navigate and full of people. I am now at the Denver airport waiting for the plane to SD. Winter has arrived and it was 45 degrees this morning-freezing for me so I am glad to be leaving. It was just great seeing everyone, some of which I had never met.
Aloha Nui,
Vicky
